Try as they might, those in Washington cannot legislate fair.  It’s impossible.  Life is, unfortunately, unfair.  Some people have talent at a particular sport while others do not.  Some people that have wealth, others do not.  That is just the way it is and no amount of gerrymandering by politicians will cosmetically balance the scales.

People will always find a loophole or discover ways around things.  This is a bad example but I hope it illustrates the point.  Young people posted pictures on Facebook that should have stayed in the darkroom.  When adults advised their younger counterparts that employers use Facebook in hiring decisions, they started using first and middle names to avoid detection. When employers got savvy to that trick, young people began using Instagram.

People want it both ways but reality says it is impossible.  A recent poll found the majority of Americans want Obamacare delayed or defunded but do not want the government shut down.  I suggest asking another question.  “Do you think a discussion on Obamacare would happen if the government were not shut down?”

Without that answer, we face a dichotomy as opposite as reality and fantasy.  People can be upset all they want about the government shutdown but we cannot have it both ways.  We either shut up and accept Obamacare or we “tough out” a government shutdown and not visit parks.

It’s obvious reasonable people do not reside in DC otherwise this fiasco would only appear in fiction.  I suspect the political parties will align once it’s obvious which party stands to lose the most at the polls.  The best we can hope for is to have leaders who do what is best for the majority of people knowing, like life, nothing is going to be perfect.
