The Quiet Journey

Worst Enemy

You hear the praise that echo with your name,
each accolade’s a chain you cannot see.
Your mask of triumph hides a quiet flame,
Your heart unsure of what it means to be.
Beneath your calm, the void repeats its claim.

You build your day with purpose, brick by brick,
A fortress built from fears you can’t reveal.
Each triumph masks the weight that makes you sick,
success becomes a wound that will not heal.
You cannot flee the echo of your name.

At dusk, you meet the stranger you became,
your eyes show the truth you try to escape.
The mirror asks the question none will frame,
“Is it real or part of the vast dreamscape?”
Are you the shadow, or the entity?

When silence crowns the ruins of your guise,
and time unmasks the soul you can’t defend,
You see through tears the self you long denied,
the circle closes, where it did begin
It’s clear, you are your own worst enemy
